(by G.J. Charlet III)

The internet says it, and thus it must be true: Nov. 2 is Plan Your Epitaph Day. Of course, it’s also Day of the Dead, but Plan Your Epitaph Day is shiny and new!

So it’s a banner day in M.T. Coffin’s world. He is going to celebrate by decorating some sugar skulls and coming up with more funny things to put on tombstones. (M.T. Coffin claims he was the first to put “I told you I was sick” on a gravestone, but we don’t really believe him. He’s prone to exaggeration, and thinks he’s so much smarter than everyone else just because was born in 1885.)

So which epitaph is your favorite?

  1. He never killed a man that did not need killing
  2. Pardon me for not rising
  3. He never voted for Republicans and had little to do with them
  4. I told you I was sick

Morgan directed me to this article on Gizmodo about a tombstone set in Rotis Serif, a rather modern font. I would like my epitaph to be set in Didot. Or perhaps Clarendon if I feel frisky in my old age. What say you?
